RAPID CITY, S.D. – June 2, 2021 – A maintenance crew will be onsite during precipitation events and through the weekends to continue to maintain the road.

Roadway excavation and culvert installation continue from Highway 385 to the westernmost Spring Creek bridge.

Roadway excavation and undercutting continue near Victoria Lake Road, moving west to Old Sheridan Road. Preparation continues for the first lift of gravel and millings placement through Old Sheridan Road. The reclaim and milling operation began this week from Old Sheridan Road going west to Rockwood Road. Storm sewer installation continues moving west from Victoria Lake Road to Stirrup Court.

Traffic to The Marina at Sheridan Lake must use the gravel detour from Highway 385. The Marina is not accessible from Sheridan Lake Road during this construction season.

The speed limit is 35 mph from Norseman Lane to Rockwood Road. Sheridan Lake Road is fully closed from Spring Creek Trailhead Road to Highway 385. Thru traffic from Rapid City to Highway 385 must use an alternate route. Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.

Project Update 2021/05/24

RAPID CITY, S.D. – May 24, 2021 – Oftedal Construction will work through Friday of this week and will suspend work over the Memorial Day weekend. A crew will remain on the project to maintain the driving lanes Saturday through Monday. The forecast indicates rain is likely again this week; proceed with caution during precipitation events which create slippery driving conditions. A maintenance crew will be onsite during precipitation events and through the weekend to continue to maintain the road.

The Centennial Trail is open through the construction area. Temporary orange safety fence has been installed to guide trail users through the construction area and box culvert.

Roadway excavation, undercutting, and gravel placement continues near Victoria Lake Road moving west to Old Sheridan Road. Storm sewer installation is in progress at Stirrup Court moving west.

Work has started on installation of temporary safety fence for the Centennial Trail path through the construction area and the box culvert.

Winter weather conditions on Sheridan Lake Road in Pennington County, South Dakota, Tuesday, April 20, 2021

Project Update 2021-04-12

RAPID CITY, S.D. – April 12, 2021 – Patching on portions of the existing asphalt on Sheridan Lake Road will take place this week from the westernmost Spring Creek bridge to easternmost Spring Creek bridge.

Excavation for box culvert installation is in progress at the Horse Creek Crossing.

Grading and undercutting is in progress from Norseman Lane to Old Sheridan Road. Storm sewer installation will begin next week at Norseman Lane moving west.

Grading and backfill work continue at the 9-foot by 8-foot box culvert for the Centennial Trail crossing of Sheridan Lake Road. There is not a detour route for this closed section of the trail. An active construction zone will be in effect for the remainder of the year; however, it is anticipated that this part of the Centennial Trail will be open by the end of May. Orange safety fence will be installed to guide hikers on the trail through the construction area and the box culvert on a defined path clear from construction activities.

The gravel detour to the Marina from Highway 385 is completed and in use.

Blasting rock for excavation will continue this week.

Work this week also includes earth moving and installing storm sewer.

Patching and road cleanup will take place from Norseman Lane to Boulder Hill Road as needed.
