RAPID CITY, S.D. – April 12, 2021 – Patching on portions of the existing asphalt on Sheridan Lake Road will take place this week from the westernmost Spring Creek bridge to easternmost Spring Creek bridge.
Excavation for box culvert installation is in progress at the Horse Creek Crossing.
Grading and undercutting is in progress from Norseman Lane to Old Sheridan Road. Storm sewer installation will begin next week at Norseman Lane moving west.
Grading and backfill work continue at the 9-foot by 8-foot box culvert for the Centennial Trail crossing of Sheridan Lake Road. There is not a detour route for this closed section of the trail. An active construction zone will be in effect for the remainder of the year; however, it is anticipated that this part of the Centennial Trail will be open by the end of May. Orange safety fence will be installed to guide hikers on the trail through the construction area and the box culvert on a defined path clear from construction activities.
Traffic to The Marina at Sheridan Lake must use the gravel detour from Highway 385. The Marina is not accessible from Sheridan Lake Road during this construction season.
The speed limit is 35 mph from Norseman Lane to Rockwood Road. Sheridan Lake Road is fully closed from Spring Creek Trailhead Road to Highway 385. Thru traffic from Rapid City to Highway 385 must use an alternate route. Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
Additional information will be provided as phasing, access, and traffic control changes with the progression of the project.
