Project Update 2020-08-04

RAPID CITY, S.D. – August 4, 2020 – Work will continue during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Riders are strongly encouraged to use an alternate route.

Early this week crews will begin hauling gravel to the Sheridan Lake Road reconstruction project from U.S. Highway 16 to Moon Meadows Drive to Dunsmore Road. Storm sewer installation continues this week west of Countryside Boulevard moving toward Clarkson Road. Work on storm sewer will also begin near Spring Canyon Trail. Grading work is being done between Spring Canyon Trail and Norseman Lane. Utility relocation activities continue to progress west of Norseman Lane.

Through traffic, such as motorists on their way to Sheridan Lake, are advised to consider an alternate route. Traffic delays are 15 minutes during daylight hours, when traffic is reduced to a single lane and guided through the work zone with the use of flaggers and a pilot car. At night there is two-way traffic. The speed limit is 35 mph from Albertta Drive to Victoria Lake Road.

Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes. Additional information will be provided as phasing, access, and traffic control changes with the progression of the project. To view the entire scope of the project, with the phasing and traffic control plans as well as weekly updates, please visit the Story Map located at: https://arcg.is/58fn9. The public may leave a message at (605)343-3311 with any questions or concerns regarding this reconstruction project.
